Early Passion for Golf
Jim Perez's passion for golf ignited during his time at Reedley College. Participating in a college tournament, he impressively shot a 77. With dedication and hard work, he improved his game by ten strokes within a year.
Professional Training and Credentials
Embarking on his teaching journey in 1980, Jim transitioned to a professional career in 1995 after successfully completing the United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF) certification course and the rigorous Playing Ability Test. In 1997, he earned his Master Teaching Professional credential in San Diego, California, graduating at the top of his class. That same year, he also passed the PGA Playing Ability Test in the San Francisco area.
Tournament Achievements and Honors
Jim's tournament successes began in 1977 with a victory at the Mexican American Golf Association Club Championship. He secured a second-place finish at the United States Golf Teachers Cup and has consistently ranked in the top ten in national competitions since 1997. His participation in the World Golf Teachers Championship spans multiple years, with top 20 finishes in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007.
Notably, Jim boasts a personal best score of 63 and has achieved seven hole-in-ones. He has proudly represented the United States as a team member five times, ranking among the top six players. His exceptional teaching skills earned him a nomination as one of the Top 100 Instructors in America by Golf Magazine, and he has been inducted into the USGTF Hall of Fame.

With over 50,000 golf lessons delivered across the United States and internationally—including countries like Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and Spain—Jim's teaching expertise is unparalleled. Viewers can also catch his "Golf Tip of the Week" segment every Tuesday morning on Channel 47.
Commitment to Golf Education
Featured in David Iwanaga's book, "The Duffer’s Guide to Better Golf," Jim has also authored four books himself. Three are currently in the editing phase, while the fourth, "Kindergarten Golf," is in pre-publication and has received high praise from John Andrisani, former senior instruction editor at Golf Magazine and author of over 30 books.
Jim's dedication to continuous learning has led him to attend seminars with esteemed instructors such as Butch Harmon, Bob Toski, Jim Flick, Jimmy Ballard, Pia Nilsson, and putting guru Harold Swash. Additionally, he imparts his knowledge by teaching certification classes for the USGTF, guiding aspiring golf instructors on their professional journeys.
